First and foremost:
Housing is a human right.
Healthcare is a human right.
My name is Phoenix Altair, I am 34 years old, I live in Rutland County and I am running as an independent for US Congress for Vermont. I decided to run because, despite my disabilities, I couldn’t end up a part of the bystander effect. My campaign is grassroots; just like I intend to run the office and have not received, nor will accept any money, from Super PACs. Vermont’s state motto is “Freedom and Unity,” and the issues I will fight for reflect the motto.
Freedom. Vermonters should have autonomy on how they utilize their land and how they educate their children. A bureaucrat in DC or Montpelier will never understand these issues more than those who are directly affected and knowledgeable on these matters. There is no “one size fits all” when it comes to education or land regulation. This brave little state was shaped by rugged individuals like Ethan Allen and Moses Robinson. These men understood the need for independence and autonomy over their choices regarding their family and land, while also recognizing the importance of community.
Unity. Calvin Coolidge once said:
“I love Vermont because of her hills and valleys, her scenery and invigorating climate, but most of all, because of her indomitable people. They are a race of pioneers who have almost beggared themselves to serve others. If the spirit of liberty should vanish in other parts of the union and support of our institutions should languish, it could all be replenished from the generous store held by the people of this brave little state of Vermont.”
People and policy should guide the actions of our elected representatives, not party lines and Super PACs. Term limits should apply to all positions, and that those positions be held accountable when they go against the will and good of the people, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or political affiliation. Our federal representation in Congress should represent our people. Most Vermonters aren’t making more than $150,000/yr with a Cadillac healthcare plan.
Housing is a human right.
Healthcare is a human right.
Let’s lead by example, get out there and vote by November 3rd, because only together can we truly make these changes happen in our brave little state!
Thank you for your time, below is a further list of items I will be addressing in office.
